Financial exploitation is a wide-spread and fast-growing form of elder abuse involving trusted persons (family, friends, caregivers or attorneys) as well as strangers. Financial exploitation has a devastating effect on the physical, psychological and emotional health of those affected, and can cause financial insecurity, loss of a home and sometimes early death. A Little Help is turning the spotlight on this damaging form of abuse.

  • Delta County Sheriff’s office

We will discuss the forms, incidence and consequences of financial exploitation as well as providing information on how to protecting yourself and your loved ones. Join the discussion and learn what to look for, and how you can defend yourself and your loved ones against theft, fraud and scams.

Financial exploitation of older adults is a form of abuse that is both wide-spread and fast-growing. It commonly involves trusted persons such as family, friends, caregivers or attorneys. Financial exploitation is expensive; for the elder, for the community and for the state as victims turn to Medicaid as a result of the theft. It has a devastating effect on the physical, psychological and emotional health of those affected, and can cause financial insecurity, loss of a home and sometimes early death.
