What is the Value of Partnership?
Support Older Adults to Support Your Employees
“In 2013, about 40 million family caregivers provided 37 billion hours of care worth an estimated $470 billion to their parents, spouses, partners and other adult loved ones. Studies estimate that family caregivers spend an average of $6,954 on out-of-pocket costs related to caregiving, nearly 20 percent of their annual income. Out-of-pocket spending is even higher among Hispanic/Latino caregivers ($9,022 annually, representing 44 percent of their income).” -AARP
Your partnership provides a platform to boldly communicate your commitment to social responsibility across eight geographic regions of the State. Consumers and employees alike are increasingly seeking to engage socially responsible entities.
What is A Little Help?
The power of community brought together a group of neighbors in 2005 to support each other using the national Village Model. In 2008, this group established itself as a 501c3, focusing on helping older adults age well in their homes by offering A Little Help.
A decade later, our unique and vibrant model of intergenerational engagement and support provides needed services to older adults and fosters interdependence through intergenerational programming. To age well at home, A Little Help provides an array of services such as transportation, friendly visits, technology help, handiwork, yardwork, snow shoveling, and caregiver respite. We are helping older adults thrive in meaningful community by connecting people intergenerationally to share stories, combat isolation, and reawaken purpose.
With our systems and infrastructure in place, a dedicated board and staff, and strong community support from inspiring volunteers and elders, we are prepared to grow substantially over the next five years.
For A Little Help to grow and continue our commitment to the highest quality of care and coordination, we need your partnership and support. Partnership with an organization with the reach and respect that you have built will help our community-based nonprofit have the credibility and sustainability necessary to help integrate our elders into their neighborhoods in a more whole and healthy way.
Building Community to Fight Isolation
Demographic trends show a continued, dramatic increase in the numbers of older Coloradans through the next several decades, as Colorado ages at a faster pace than the rest of the country. As people are choosing to age in their homes, 1 in 3 older adults experiences chronic isolation—which, according to recent research, has negative health effects equivalent to smoking a pack of cigarettes per day.
Social isolation among older adults goes beyond just those individuals. According to the Family Caregiver Alliance, 42% of employed Americans have provided care for older family members in the last five years—which directly impacts employers as workers are forced to take time off or rearrange work schedules to accommodate elder care.
At A Little Help, we’re striving to combat this isolation among seniors, in part by working with local and state leaders to create solutions. Our ability to serve Colorado’s aging adults is funded by your partnership. Your generous support helps us to spread our innovative model throughout Colorado in the next five years, while helping you gain more recognition as a company that empowers grassroots nonprofits where we work and live.
